About the artist: Liisa Vitali was one of Finland’s most important goldsmiths, whose progressive and sensual approach to jewelry making strongly contributed to Finnish jewelry becoming world renowned in the 1960s and 1970s. Vitali is best known for her beautiful ”Ladybird” and ”Lace” series. Vitali’s artistic style is a unique, beautiful representation of the Finnish modernist jewelry that emerged in the early 1960s, inspired by Scandinavian jewelry and Finnish folklore. Liisa Vitali got the inspiration for the »Gardenia« series from seeing the blooming gardenias outside her hotel during a stay in London. Ideas often came to Liisa Vitali on a whim. The fluidity of the design is also easy to associate with forest pools and raindrops. The series was introduced in 1974 and became very popular, especially in the Nordic countries.
