Midcentury Pewter Box by Nils Fougstedt

Elegant pewter jar, model 364, by Estrid Ericson and Nils Fougstedt. Rectangular form with rounded corners, rim lined with brass. Lid decorated with a verse from a 1642 poem by the Swedish poet Lars Wivallius, an invocation for an abundant summer. It reads:
“Give joy and consolation, let the lark not die, let live the swallow of summer. Comfort each heart on the isle of Sweden, however dolefully it now speaks. Allow summer, give flowers, give good green hay, let the cuckoo call and sing.”
